Two Year 9 students from Taunton School have distinguished themselves among over 42,000 competitors by earning gold awards in the highly regarded 2025 Biology Challenge. This achievement places Elena and Lucie among the UK’s elite young biologists.
The Biology Challenge, designed for students aged 13 to 15, took place from April 28 to May 7 and consisted of two formal exam papers. While the tests aligned with the school curriculum, the highest achievers demonstrated exceptional understanding extending well beyond classroom topics. Elena and Lucie’s success reflects their dedication to independent learning through activities such as engaging with natural history documentaries, staying informed on current biological developments, and cultivating a broad knowledge of the natural world.
Both pupils scored above 90 percent to earn their gold certificates, highlighting their remarkable grasp of biology.
