Situated at Creech Court, Mill Lane, Creech St Michael, Cambian Somerset School exclusively serves children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), all with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans. Approximately 85% of pupils have autism, with others presenting communication, social, emotional, mental health challenges, ADHD, or combinations thereof.

Inspectors noted the school’s purposeful learning environment, characterized by clear routines and high expectations. Pupils learn the importance of friendship and supporting one another, demonstrating tolerance and forming warm friendships, resulting in no bullying concerns.

The school offers a broad, ambitious curriculum tailored to each pupil’s academic and pastoral profile. Starting points and therapeutic needs are carefully assessed to create individualized learning paths that effectively meet their needs.

Teaching quality is another strength, with staff demonstrating strong subject knowledge supported by ongoing professional development. Mathematics teaching is particularly commended for its use of precise mathematical vocabulary that aids pupils’ understanding, especially in algebra.

Mr Fielding added, “We are excited about the school’s continued progress and are working on plans to expand by 20 places to accommodate more young people, meeting growing local demand.”
