Vandals who targeted the Taunton Islamic Centre early on Saturday, September 6, are being strongly condemned by the local MP, Gideon Amos. The perpetrators smashed windows at the mosque and community centre on Tower Lane just before a planned children’s event. Mr. Amos described the attack as carried out by “weak and cowardly” individuals who are “not welcome in our town.”
Reporting the incident, Avon and Somerset Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for any information. CCTV footage from the area shows two men the police are eager to identify and speak with regarding the case. Authorities encourage anyone with relevant dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage from the time to come forward.
Mr. Amos visited the mosque to offer support to the affected families and emphasized that anyone responsible for damaging community property will face “the full weight of the law.” He stated, “If you can help the police with any information, please ring 101. You do not have to provide your name or contact details.”

The community has been urged to remain vigilant and united in the face of such incidents, reaffirming that acts of vandalism and hate have no place in Taunton.
