Taunton residents are invited to celebrate the official opening of the new civic square at Orchard Grove, a major housing development set to include 2,000 homes. The event will take place on Saturday, July 11, from 11am to 2pm, with the first 100 attendees receiving free ice creams.
Orchard Grove lies between Wellington Road (A38) in Comeytrowe and Honiton Road near Trull village. Developed by the Orchard Grove Consortium—which includes Taylor Wimpey, Bovis Homes, Linden Homes, and LiveWest—the site has already delivered a new primary school and a ‘park and bus’ facility, supporting community growth and local transport.
The newly completed civic square, located off Egremont Road at the heart of the neighbourhood, is the first public open space dedicated to residents. The opening ceremony will feature family-friendly activities such as children’s nature-themed crafts, free seed packets, giant garden games, and live performances by a local community choir. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with complimentary ice creams and hot drinks for early arrivals.

Construction is underway on commercial spaces and a 68-bed care home near the development’s western entrance. Additionally, 209 new homes are being built along Egremont Road in the area known as the western neighbourhood. Plans for 117 more homes near Higher Comeytrowe Farm Lane are also under consideration by Somerset Council, with a decision expected by Christmas.
Further enhancements are planned, including Hortsbridge Park to the north of Egremont Road. This green space could feature allotments, an amphitheatre, and a large children’s play area, providing residents with even more recreational opportunities.
The civic square opening marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of Orchard Grove into a thriving, connected community.
