Tanya Rich: The Woman Behind the Iconic Voices

From the lively punk bands of the 1980s to the familiar prompts on your phone, Tanya Rich has been the unseen force behind the voices that have resonated with the public for over four decades.

Based in Bath, Tanya has cemented her position as one of the UK’s most renowned voice actors, with her rich timbre gracing television and radio advertisements, corporate videos, educational courses, audio dramas, and even the lift in the BT Tower. Her journey began in 1985 when she took a remarkable leap of faith and walked into Signal Radio in Stoke-on-Trent, seeking an audition following a suggestion from her mother.

This courageous step led her to reunite with writer Les Scott and receive on-the-job training. Starting as the ‘second voice’ at the station, Tanya’s early career involved traveling between studios nationwide, recording multiple scripts in single sessions during a time when home studios were merely a distant dream.

Reflecting on her 40-year tenure, Tanya stated, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent the last four decades doing what I love. Voice acting goes beyond speaking into a microphone – it’s about storytelling, connecting with audiences, and breathing life into scripts. I take pride in having been part of the industry’s evolutionary journey since its inception.”

During her illustrious career, Tanya has lent her voice to global giants like Coca-Cola, Tiffany & Co., Fendi, Amazon, Disney, American Express, and Audi, among others. Her scope of work includes IVR systems, corporate explainers, and audio guides, such as portraying the voice of Agatha Christie and her family in the interactive tour at the National Trust’s Greenway.

Apart from her voice work, Tanya operates RichCraft, a coaching company where she guides budding voice artists, shepherding them into professional careers. She also imparts her expertise through lectures on “Acting for Microphone” at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Bath Spa University.

In May 2025, Tanya is set to commemorate her remarkable milestone, continuing her impactful work within the studio and the educational realm. Despite the industry’s technological advancements, her voice remains one of the most sought-after in the UK and beyond.

“Looking back over the last 40 years, I feel incredibly grateful to have built a career doing something I love,” she remarked. “Voiceover has taken me on an incredible journey – from radio stations and studios across the UK to collaborating with international clients from my own home studio. While the industry has changed significantly, the power of voice in storytelling, connecting with audiences, and giving life to ideas still holds true. I’m immensely proud of my accomplishments and eagerly anticipate what lies ahead.”
