Calling all thrill-seekers! Somerset Wildlife Trust is organizing the Abseil for Wildlife challenge in Weston-super-Mare this April. Brace yourself for a heart-stopping 130ft drop at Uphill Quarry in North Somerset, all in the name of raising funds for local nature conservation efforts.
This exhilarating event is not just about the adrenaline rush; it’s also an opportunity to make a tangible difference to the county’s wildlife and habitats. By rallying your friends and family to sponsor your daring descent, you’ll be contributing vital funds to support Somerset Wildlife Trust’s goal of managing at least 30% of land and sea for nature conservation.
Kate Wilson, the community and events fundraising manager at Somerset Wildlife Trust, emphasized the impact of this event by stating, “The Abseil for Wildlife challenge is such a fun and unforgettable way to help the nature right on your doorstep. By asking your friends and family to sponsor you, you’ll be raising vital funds that will help us work towards our goal of ensuring at least 30% of land and sea is managed positively for nature, allowing us to create more space for wildlife, reverse the decline in species diversity, and create resilient landscapes and habitats to benefit both people and nature.”

On its fourth year, the event, in partnership with Aardvark Endeavours, has already seen over 50 participants collectively raise £10,886 for the charity. Kate expressed her gratitude, saying, “We simply would not be able to do all the work we do across Somerset without brilliant people like this taking on thrilling challenges like abseils to help push themselves to new limits and raise funds at the same time!”
Whether you’re a daredevil or simply seeking a new adventure, the Abseil for Wildlife challenge is open to individuals aged nine and above. However, participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Don’t miss your chance to make a thrilling contribution to wildlife conservation!
