Currently, Frome is one of the few remaining areas in Somerset operating a three-tier school system—consisting of first, middle, and upper schools—instead of the more common two-tier system of primary and secondary schools. An informal consultation held earlier this year found that 71% of parents supported the proposed shift to a two-tier system.
