For years, developers have sought to purchase the pub, which was originally constructed in the 1970s alongside the neighboring Mead Vale shopping precinct. In 2022, plans were approved to redevelop the Mead Vale shops and build 29 homes nearby. However, negotiations stalled as the owners of The Nightjar declined to sell.
