Wiltshire Police responded to welfare concerns early on March 31 near the Town Bridge area. After police engagement, the man tragically fell into the river, where his body was later recovered.
Due to the interaction between the police and the man prior to his death, Wiltshire Police promptly made a mandatory referral to the IOPC, which has now commenced an independent inquiry into the events and police conduct on that day.
