A suspicious fire has devastated two caravans, damaged a third, and left significant scorch marks on a nearby Tesco supermarket in Glastonbury. The incident occurred on Wirral Park Road shortly after 8 pm on Saturday, prompting an emergency response from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
Authorities now believe the blaze was deliberately set. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that both police and fire services were called to the scene near Beckery New Road just before 8:15 pm. The fire severely damaged two caravans and affected a third, while also causing heat damage to the wall of an adjacent business.
Sergeant Simon Lancey of the Glastonbury neighbourhood policing team described the fire as an “incredibly dangerous act” if proven deliberate. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Local officers will increase patrols in the area during the coming days and continue their investigation to support those impacted.
