Flinn Sessions, a 22-year-old head chef from Wimborne, Dorset, tragically drowned after falling from the quayside where the superyacht Atlantico was moored in La Ciotat, near Marseille, France. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 9, 2023, after Mr. Sessions had been socializing and drinking with his fellow crew members and workers from nearby boats.
During an inquest held in Bournemouth, it was revealed that Flinn had consumed several beers and shots during an evening at multiple bars. Witnesses recounted that his friends even asked a waiter to stop serving him more alcohol after he began knocking glasses off a table. CCTV footage captured the moments before the accident, showing Flinn leaning on a bollard at the quayside before unexpectedly falling into the water.
Despite swimming briefly to the back of the yacht, he was found dead in the water the next morning. Post-mortem examinations in both France and the UK confirmed drowning as the cause of death. Coroner Brendan Allen concluded that Flinn’s death was accidental, emphasizing that he was alone at the time of the fall, was not suffering from any medical condition, and there was no indication that the fall was intentional.
