Sunny Somerset: UK Braces for Rising Temperatures

The Met Office is forecasting clear skies and warm sunshine as April begins, ushering in high pressure and dry weather for the entire UK. While a breeze and cold seas will bring slightly cooler conditions to coastal areas, the rest of the country can expect a warm and sunny start to the month.

With the establishment of high pressure, the week is set to be consistently dry, save for light rain clearing the north of Scotland on Monday. A strong breeze across the southern half of the UK will slightly suppress temperatures, particularly in windward coastal areas due to the chilly sea surface temperatures in the wake of winter.

Tuesday will kick off with widespread sunshine, with any lingering cloud in central England dissipating through the morning. As a breeze picks up across the south, temperatures will be slightly cooler, with the northwest of England and north Wales likely to see the highest temperatures reaching 19°C.

Wednesday will see another sunny day, with temperatures potentially hitting 20°C, especially in northeast Scotland where the Foehn effect is expected to amplify daytime temperatures.

Thursday is projected to bring the highest temperatures of the week, with 21-22°C possible in southern England and around 20C in Somerset. However, low cloud from the North Sea will keep temperatures lower along the east coast on Thursday and Friday.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, advised being cautious about the higher UV levels as temperatures continue to climb, emphasizing the importance of sun protection even in April.

Looking ahead, high pressure will persist through the weekend, continuing the sunny and warm conditions, particularly in the west of the UK.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Mike Silverstone, shared that while eastern areas will likely see some cloud as high pressure shifts, temperatures of up to 20°C are forecast for Friday in western parts with little rainfall and lots of sunshine expected through the weekend and into the following week.
