Summer sun trap restaurant bringing a slice of the Med to Somerset

If you’re searching for the perfect summer sun trap in Somerset, look no further than HOLM in South Petherton. This beloved local spot is reopening its terrace on Saturday, May 2, ushering in a vibrant summer season that brings a taste of the Mediterranean countryside right to your doorstep.

To kick things off, chef-founder Nicholas Balfe is hosting a relaxed garden party from noon to 4pm. Forget formal dining—expect an informal BBQ featuring mouthwatering Slow-cooked Otter Valley lamb buns with crunchy pickles and slaw, miso-glazed aubergine buns (v), hot honey chicken wings, and fries served with garlic aioli.

Refreshing £7 cocktails will be available all day, showcasing summer favorites such as Aperol Spritz, Peach Bellinis, and a signature “Balfearic” twist on the classic Pimm’s Cup, perfect for keeping spirits high.

The atmosphere will be alive with the vibrant sounds of the Millie Requelme Duo—a Cuban keys and percussion pair—followed by a lineup of local DJs, including Nicholas Balfe himself, spinning “Balfearic” beats well into the evening.

For 2026, the terrace has been beautifully refreshed with new garden furniture, a children’s sandpit, and soft, lush planting designed by local expert Charlie of Mimosa & Moss.

“The terrace works just as well for a quiet morning coffee as it does for a long lunch or an afternoon pint,” the team shares.

The menu will evolve with the seasons, focusing on lighter, sun-inspired dishes like salt cod croquetas, burrata with grilled peach, and BBQ bream fillet with fennel salad.

Whether you’re drawn by the wood-fired flavors, the cocktail specials, or the lively atmosphere, HOLM is staking its claim as South Somerset’s top destination this summer.
