Stunning Sun Halo Captured Over Glastonbury Tor

Photographer Josh Dury seized a rare and captivating moment at Glastonbury Tor on Tuesday, February 17, by capturing an extraordinary sun halo.

This mesmerizing weather phenomenon appears as a glowing ring encircling the sun, created when sunlight is refracted through countless tiny ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds. On this particular day, hazy conditions set the perfect backdrop for the sun halo to align beautifully with the iconic tower atop the Tor.

Josh described the experience: “There were hazy conditions producing a solar halo which I aligned with the tower to capture this photo. It was unexpected really with the hazy cloud pushing across, so it was a matter of biting the bullet to take the picture.”
