Photographer Josh Dury seized a rare moment of natural beauty when he captured a mesmerizing sun halo over Glastonbury Tor in Somerset. On Tuesday, February 17, Josh spotted the striking atmospheric phenomenon and skillfully aligned it with the iconic tower atop the tor.
“The conditions were hazy with thin clouds drifting across the sky,” Josh explained. “This created the perfect setting for a solar halo, and I quickly positioned myself to capture the glowing ring of light encircling the sun directly behind the tower.”
A sun halo occurs when sunlight refracts through millions of tiny ice crystals suspended in high-altitude cirrus clouds, creating a luminous ring around the sun. This ethereal effect combined with the historic silhouette of Glastonbury Tor made for an extraordinary photo that highlights the beauty of both nature and place.
