Work has commenced at Grove Park in Weston-super-Mare as part of North Somerset Council’s initiative to enhance the town centre’s green space. The project aims to create a more inviting and sustainable environment for residents and visitors.
Improvements include redesigning the park’s main entrance with additional planting and new seating, installing a sustainable drainage system, resurfacing pathways, and updating signage. A significant element of the upgrade is the removal of the existing public toilet block and construction of a new facility featuring accessible toilets and baby changing amenities near the café.
To ensure public safety and allow contractors to work effectively, certain sections of Grove Park will be temporarily closed. Additionally, some pay and display parking bays within the Grove Park car park on Grove Road will be temporarily suspended at times. The car park itself will remain open, but parking availability may be limited during specific periods. Clear signage and barriers will indicate closures, and the public is urged to respect these for their safety.

Cllr Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member for sustainable places and service transformation, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “It’s great to see the next stage of physical work starting, which will help attract more people from the town centre to enjoy this beautiful green space. We hope this will boost footfall and support local trade.”
He added, “Community input has been vital; over 120 people participated in the Grove Park Gathering event last summer, and their feedback has helped shape the plans being implemented now. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the works but are confident the final result will be well worth it.”
The redesign reflects extensive community engagement led by We Made That in collaboration with Super Culture, including the family-friendly ‘Grove Park Gathering’ event held in June 2024.
