A stunning green comet, Comet SWAN25F, was only recently discovered on April Fool’s Day, and it has already been captured in a breathtaking image by a Somerset photographer.
Josh Dury, aged 27, took the remarkable shot of the comet from the Mendip Hills in Somerset in the early hours of the morning on April 9. The discovery of this cosmic phenomenon was credited to Australian amateur astronomer Michael Mattiazzo, and it has been creating a buzz within the astronomical community.
This event presents a unique opportunity for skywatchers to witness a dynamic celestial happening, as the comet is visible through binoculars or small telescopes.

Josh explained that he utilized nine sixty-second exposures combined to capture the remarkable scene, emphasizing the technical skill required to photograph such a spectacle.
The comet’s striking green glow can be attributed to dicarbon, a molecule that emits green light when exposed to sunlight.
Comet SWAN25F is scheduled to reach perihelion, its closest approach to the Sun, on May 1, at a distance of approximately 31 million miles (50 million kilometers).
