Bertha, a retired nurse who devoted her life to caring for others, is about to reach a remarkable milestone—her 100th birthday this June. Residing at Bloomfield Care Centre in Paulton near Bristol, Bertha has no surviving family or close friends nearby. To make her centennial celebration unforgettable, staff are reaching out to the community to send cards, messages, or any tokens of kindness.
Born near London and orphaned at eight after losing her mother to tuberculosis—a loss that inspired her lifelong commitment to nursing—Bertha’s career spanned continents. She worked in New Zealand, Australia, and Kenya, where she held particularly fond memories. Upon returning to the UK, she continued her service at the Royal United Hospital in Bath before retiring.
Now frail and visually impaired, Bertha remains a beacon of strength and inspiration to those around her. A member of the care team noted, “Though Bertha has no family nearby, the countless lives she has touched through her compassion and dedication make her deeply valued. We hope the community will come together to show her she is not forgotten.”
