Stourhead, a historic National Trust property in Wiltshire, has unveiled an engaging children’s activity trail within its grand house. The trail, designed as a hands-on treasure hunt, invites families to explore the 18th-century Palladian mansion through a spotter trail and seven interactive activity stations. Geared towards young minds, the colorful flip-book trail leads children on a quest to discover hidden objects of historical significance while pausing at activity stations to engage in various interactive experiences.
Elizabeth Ogilvie, senior visitor experience officer, emphasized that Stourhead’s history holds stories and secrets for everyone, including kids. The new trail aims to inspire young visitors to immerse themselves in the property’s history through creativity and play. Situated within Stourhead house, the trail is included with standard admission during normal opening hours.
Stourhead, known as ‘a living work of art’, encompasses 2,650 acres of Wiltshire countryside and features an iconic landscape garden surrounding a picturesque lake. The National Trust’s initiative aligns with its new 10-year strategy, focusing on restoring nature, promoting equal access to heritage, and inspiring public engagement.
