Stephen Mulhern’s Butlin’s Era Ends at the Place Where It All Began

Stephen Mulhern, the charismatic presenter and magician, has concluded his popular live performances at Butlin’s holiday resorts, bringing to a close a memorable chapter at the very site where his career first took flight. The Minehead Butlin’s resort, where Mulhern began as a Redcoat in the late 1990s, served as both a symbolic and practical home for his performances over the past three years.

Mulhern’s three-year contract, reportedly worth around £1 million, has officially ended. A representative for the star emphasized that the partnership remains strong and positive, despite the live shows not returning in 2026.

“Stephen has absolutely loved being part of the Butlin’s family — performing his stage shows to thousands of holidaymakers across the UK," the spokesperson said. “This change opens doors for Stephen to explore new projects within the family holiday sector, a field he is deeply passionate about.”

Butlin’s also expressed their appreciation, stating: “Stephen has been a quintessential part of the Butlin’s experience and continues to be a cherished member of the family. Though his live show won’t continue next year after three fantastic seasons, we look forward to collaborating on other exciting ventures this autumn.”

The news reflects not only a milestone in Mulhern’s career but also a period of considerable change. Earlier this year, the ITV skating show Dancing On Ice was cancelled despite Mulhern’s recent role as co-host. Additionally, his game show In For A Penny ended after six seasons, though insiders suggest the format’s unique charm may return in the future.

Mulhern has also faced personal challenges recently, notably collapsing after surgery in a Pizza Express and grieving the loss of his father. His emotional tribute during the Royal Variety Performance touched many, underscoring his resilience and dedication.

Amid these ups and downs, there has been bright news: Mulhern continues to captivate audiences as the host of Deal or No Deal, which returned to ITV in 2023, securing his place as one of Britain’s most recognizable television personalities.
