The Progressive Sports Active Camp in Bath has received outstanding feedback in its recent Ofsted inspection. Hosting 60 children aged four to 12 at Wellsway School during school holidays, the camp offers a broad range of activities including archery and basketball, designed to promote physical fitness and personal growth.
Inspectors highlighted how staff actively build children’s confidence and independence. “Children arrive eager and quickly settle into discussions and activities with their friends. Staff inspire children to take responsibility for their belongings, encouraging independence,” the report noted.
Newcomers receive reassurance and quickly join in the diverse activities on offer. Engagement levels are high, with children creatively inventing their own games while waiting for peers to arrive. Positive relationships flourish as staff play an active role in sparking conversations, asking questions, and promoting social skills.

Children are empowered to make decisions, such as voting on their preferred games, fostering a sense of ownership and joy. “Children and staff laugh and have fun together, running and playing games. Children say, ‘I love running and playing games,’” the report shared.
Leaders and staff adapt activities to meet diverse needs, such as modifying archery for younger participants, ensuring inclusivity and appropriate challenges. The camp environment reinforces good manners and respect, with staff encouraging kindness, sharing, and positive interactions. Children frequently hold doors open and express gratitude, supported by continual praise that boosts self-esteem.
James McTiernan, Director of Progressive Sports, expressed pride in the inspection outcome. “We’re delighted that our OFSTED report acknowledges the hard work and dedication from our team. We’re committed to ensuring that children are safe, secure, and engaged at all our childcare settings. The report reflects this commitment.”
