Team England is set to compete at Glasgow 2026 with a formidable athletics squad of 63 athletes, including an impressive contingent hailing from the South West. The team aims to extend England’s unparalleled success in Commonwealth Games athletics, where it holds the record for the most medals won.
This summer’s squad features a blend of seasoned champions and rising stars, including 22 British champions from the recent UK Athletics Championships and eight British record holders. Leading the charge is the reigning Commonwealth heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who looks to achieve a historic third consecutive title.
Amongst the South West’s emerging talents is Aleeya Sibbons, who secured a spot in the women’s 4x100m relay squad alongside well-established sprinters Amy Hunt, Imani-Lara Lansiquot, Daryll Neita, and Dina Asher-Smith. Sibbons, coached by Colin Bovell, balances her full-time training at Team Bath Sports Training Village with her academic background in architecture, making her Commonwealth debut at Glasgow 2026.

The women’s sprint team is particularly strong, with Amy Hunt making her first Commonwealth Games appearance following standout performances on the global stage. She will race in the 100m alongside 2022 Birmingham bronze medallist Daryll Neita and Imani-Lara Lansiquot.
Other notable selections on the track include British champions Emily Newnham, Elise Thorner, and Hannah Nuttall. Emily Newnham and Lina Nielsen will compete in the 400m hurdles, Elise Thorner in the 3000m steeplechase, while Hannah Nuttall and double European Under-20 champion Innes FitzGerald take on the 5000m. In the long-distance events, Izzy Fry and Poppy Tank will run their Commonwealth debuts in the 10,000m, with Emma Nwofor participating in the 100m hurdles.
Athletics Team Leader Scott Grace expressed pride in the squad: “Congrats to all athletes selected to represent England. It’s an honour to lead a team with such a rich mix of experience and promising talent—from Olympic and World medallists to junior international stars. I also commend the personal coaches, families, and support teams who play vital roles in these athletes’ successes. I’m confident this team will make us proud at Glasgow.”
Team England’s Chef de Mission Jonathon Riall highlighted the excitement surrounding the athletics team: “Athletics always electrifies the Commonwealth Games. This squad reflects the calibre and passion of those competing for Team England. I can’t wait to see both established stars and fresh faces perform on the big stage.”
Fans can look forward to cheering these stars as they compete in Glasgow this summer.
