Starting now, the X10 bus route across North Somerset is free for all riders until Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24. This festive offer covers the entire route that travels through key stops including Yatton Station, Clevedon, Portishead, Cribbs Causeway, Filton College, and Southmead Hospital.
Hugh Malyan, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, shared the holiday spirit: “Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends. Offering free travel on this route encourages everyone to visit loved ones in Clevedon, Portishead, Bristol, and beyond, without the burden of fares, parking fees, or traffic congestion.”
This initiative is part of the council’s broader Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), aimed at making bus travel more affordable and convenient. The plan includes upgrading 150 bus stops and shelters, constructing new transport hubs, and keeping fares low to enhance overall accessibility across the region.
Council Leader Mike Bell emphasized the importance of quality public transport: “Good bus services matter to everyone. The BSIP gives us a fantastic chance to work together to raise standards and ensure North Somerset remains well-connected for all residents now and in the future.”
In line with these improvements, the council recently started upgrading a major junction on the A38, which will have lane closures continuing until around May. Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Hannah Young said, “We engaged with residents and passengers in developing these final plans. Our efforts will increase capacity on the A38, ease traffic to the airport, and allow buses to bypass congestion, improving journey times and service reliability for over 120,000 monthly passengers.”
For those interested, the full X10 timetable is available online, making it easy to plan trips during this special free travel period.
