In the heart of Somerset, a community’s passion for gardening has blossomed into heartfelt generosity. Garden lovers in Dulverton have once again combined their love of horticulture with compassion, raising £1,750 for the Moorland Food Bank through their annual Secret Gardens event.
On Sunday, July 27, during the Dulverton Family Dog Show, Christine Dubery, Chair of the Visit Dulverton Partnership Group, presented John Preston, Chair of the Moorland Food Bank, with the generous donation. The handover, a highlight of the event held on the scenic Exmoor Lawns, celebrated the community’s collective effort and spirit.
The funds were raised at the Secret Gardens of Dulverton event on Sunday, June 22. For one day, ten private gardens welcomed over 250 visitors who wandered through the town’s hidden botanical treasures while enjoying refreshments and the warm summer ambiance.

This annual event not only showcases the beauty of Dulverton’s green spaces but also supports families across Exmoor, including areas like Wheddon Cross, that rely on the food bank’s assistance. Choosing to donate the proceeds once again underscores the Visit Dulverton committee’s commitment to local welfare.
John Preston expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are deeply thankful to the Visit Dulverton Partnership Group for their generous support. This donation will make a significant difference to many families in our community.”
Echoing this sentiment, Christine Dubery paid tribute to the gardeners themselves: “We warmly thank the garden owners whose generosity in opening their homes makes this event possible and so successful.”
Looking ahead, the next Secret Gardens of Dulverton event is set for Sunday, June 21, 2026. Residents interested in sharing their garden’s charm and contributing to this worthy cause are invited to connect with Visit Dulverton.
