Somerset’s Historic Heated Lido Reopens for Summer with Splash Pool for Kids

Nestled in the heart of the charming Somerset village of Street, Greenbank Swimming Pool offers an idyllic summer retreat for locals and visitors alike. Just a short distance from Glastonbury, this historic lido has been delighting swimmers since 1937.

The 100-foot (30-metre) main outdoor pool is heated to a comfortable 30°C, ensuring a pleasant swim even during cooler British weather. For younger visitors, a separate children’s pool warmed to 32°C provides a cozy spot to splash around. Adding to the family-friendly atmosphere, a vibrant splash zone features fountains, a slide, and a variety of water attractions guaranteed to delight kids of all ages.

Surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns and mature shady trees, Greenbank offers plenty of space to relax, picnic, and soak up the sun in a beautiful green setting. Its appeal is reflected in glowing reviews, with an average rating of 4.6 on Google. Visitors frequently praise the cleanliness, friendly staff, and the pool’s stunning outdoor location.

Due to its popularity, the pool can get busy during peak hours, sometimes making the main pool better suited for cooling off rather than serious lap swimming. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, especially on sunny days, as advance booking is not available and queues can form.

Greenbank Swimming Pool is open through the summer season until the end of September. During term time, opening hours are noon to 6:30pm, with an adults-only swim from 6:30pm to 7pm. On weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays, hours extend from 10:30am to 6pm, including a special session exclusive to season ticket holders from 10am to 10:30am and an adults-only swim from 6pm to 6:30pm.

A heatwave policy applies when temperatures rise above 27°C, closing the pool at 5pm for a later adults-only session. Parking consists of 22 pay-and-display spaces on site, supplemented by over 1,300 additional village parking spots within walking distance. Visitors are urged to use official car parks out of courtesy to neighbours.

Admission costs for the season are £8.50 for adults, £8 for seniors, £6.50 for children aged 8-17, £6 for children aged 2-7, and free for children under 2.
