Somerset’s Historic Heated Lido Reopens for Summer with Fun Splash Pool for Kids

Tucked away amidst lush greenery in the heart of Somerset lies Greenbank Swimming Pool, a charming lido that offers an idyllic summer retreat. Located in the historic village of Street, just a short distance from Glastonbury, this outdoor swimming spot has been delighting visitors since 1937.

Greenbank boasts a spacious 100-foot (30-metre) main pool heated to a comfortable 30°C, ensuring a pleasant swim even on cooler British days. For younger guests, there’s a dedicated children’s pool maintained at a warmer 32°C, providing a cozy spot for little ones to splash around safely. Adjacent to the pools is a vibrant splash pad featuring fountains, a slide, and interactive water attractions, making it a hit with families.

Surrounding the pools are beautifully maintained lawns perfect for sunbathing and picnics, complemented by mature trees offering welcome shade. This picturesque setting, combined with impeccable cleanliness and friendly staff, has earned Greenbank an impressive average rating of 4.6 on Google, based on hundreds of enthusiastic reviews.

Regular visitors praise it as “the most beautiful outdoor pool,” with many returning year after year. While its popularity can lead to busy times—particularly during peak hours—there are plenty of quieter, grassy spots to relax away from the crowds. Some visitors suggest that limiting entry during busy periods might improve the swimming experience.

Open now for the summer season, Greenbank welcomes swimmers daily until the end of September. Weekday opening hours run from noon to 6:30pm during term time, with an adults-only swim slot from 6:30pm to 7pm. On weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays, hours extend from 10:30am to 6pm, including exclusive sessions for season ticket holders in the morning and adults-only swims in the evening.

During heatwaves when temperatures soar above 27°C, the lido adjusts hours slightly, closing general access at 5pm and offering adults-only sessions afterward. No advance booking is available, so it’s best to arrive early on sunny days to avoid long queues.

Visitors arriving by car can utilize a council-managed car park with 22 pay-and-display spaces adjacent to the lido; however, these spaces fill quickly. Management advises taking advantage of over 1,300 additional parking spaces around Street, with the furthest official lot just an eight-minute flat walk away, encouraging respect for local residents by avoiding on-street parking.

Admission prices are reasonable for the season: £8.50 for adults, £8 for seniors (60+), £6.50 for children aged 8-17, and £6 for children aged 2-7, while under 2s enter free.

Whether you’re looking for a refreshing swim, a safe place for kids to play, or a peaceful spot to soak up summer sunshine, Greenbank Swimming Pool remains a beloved Somerset gem ready to welcome visitors all season long.
