After being blessed with an extended period of sunny and dry weather, Somerset is in for a change as the Met Office alerts residents to the imminent return of rain. The UK has been enjoying above average temperatures and abundant sunshine, largely thanks to high pressure in control of the nation’s weather. However, this is set to shift soon, with the highest temperatures moving to North Sea coasts.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page highlighted the upcoming switch in temperature distribution, noting that regions along the North Sea, particularly eastern Scotland and northeast England, will experience rising temperatures as a result of a shift in wind direction from east to west.
While much of the UK can expect dry and sunny conditions for a little longer, the far northwest of Scotland will see the onset of rain and drizzle, marking the start of a transition towards more unsettled weather for the entire region. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway indicated that the high pressure responsible for the recent warmth will gradually recede, ushering in an unsettled regime characterized by increased rain and cloud cover, along with a drop in temperatures.

The forecast suggests that next week will bring a mix of showers, longer rainy spells, and intermittent periods of dry, sunny weather, with temperatures returning to typical levels for the time of year.
As evening approaches, the weather is expected to remain fine with some late sunshine, although cloud cover is likely to increase overnight from the east. Despite this, the morning should start off clear and bright, with warm sunshine expected throughout the day. However, as the weekend advances, more clouds and a higher likelihood of showery rain are anticipated, culminating in cooler and windier conditions by Sunday.
