A new analysis highlights Somerset’s most dangerous driving hotspots, shedding light on where motorists should be most cautious. Home Office data reveals that over 6,200 dangerous driving incidents were reported across England and Wales in 2024, with 61 recorded within the Avon and Somerset police jurisdiction. Of these, 10 resulted in death or serious injury—a troubling 8% increase from the previous year.
Within Avon and Somerset, the total number of dangerous driving offences saw a slight dip, dropping from 64 to 61. Notably, only one of these incidents in 2023 led to death or serious injury, marking a significant reduction from the previous year’s nine. However, the risk of encountering a dangerous driver varies widely across the region.
Between 2022 and 2024, Somerset recorded 48 dangerous driving offences, including four that caused death or serious injury. When factoring in the population eligible for a driving licence, Bristol’s roads present a higher risk, with 16 offences per 100,000 drivers—compared to 10 per 100,000 in Somerset.
