Cheddar Gorge and Caves, a renowned beauty spot in Somerset, has opened applications for a new Santa Claus this Christmas season. The successful candidate will earn £16 an hour, creating magical moments for families visiting the site throughout the festive period.
The role, running from mid-November until Christmas Eve, offers a truly distinctive experience. The chosen Santa will perform in character approximately a quarter of a mile inside Gough’s Cave, one of the area’s famed subterranean attractions. This setting offers a sharp contrast to traditional Santa grottos commonly found in shopping centres.
Recruiters from Cheddar Gorge and Caves have outlined the unique nature of the job: “We’re seeking an enthusiastic and engaging individual to bring Santa to life at Cheddar Gorge & Caves this festive season. You will be central to crafting memorable and magical experiences for children and families through warm interaction, character performance, and exceptional guest service.”

The role involves light dancing and movement within the cool cave environment, as well as occasional light lifting, such as carrying toy sacks, and standing for extended periods throughout the day.
Beyond the festive duties, the workplace itself is nothing short of remarkable. Staff will be immersed in the awe-inspiring scenery of the gorge’s cliffs and the cave’s remarkable stalactite formations. The attraction is steeped in prehistoric history, revealing fascinating secrets about ancient ancestors, and remains a premier destination for caving and rock climbing enthusiasts globally.
Cheddar Gorge stands as one of Somerset’s most recognisable landmarks and holds the title of England’s largest gorge, boasting an impressive depth of 400 feet and stretching three miles in length.
Candidates for the Santa role should possess an outgoing and approachable personality, demonstrate strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, and be prepared to undergo a DBS check.
