Somerset fast bowler Alfie Ogborne has earned a spot in the England Lions’ 15-player squad for their upcoming four-day series against South Africa A. The squad will face the touring South African side in two matches, held at Arundel from May 22-25 and Beckenham from May 29 to June 1.
Warwickshire’s Dan Mousley will lead the side as captain, guiding a mix of promising newcomers and seasoned players. Notably, five squad members – Eddie Jack, Ben McKinney, Tom Lawes, Mitchell Stanley, and Asa Tribe – are returning Lions who toured Australia over the winter.
In addition to these experienced players, the squad features seven uncapped talents including Charlie Allison, Henry Crocombe, Ben Geddes, Ben Mayes, Alfie Ogborne, James Sales, and Naavya Sharma. Ogborne is set to make his mark in the opening match, with Sussex’s Henry Crocombe joining the squad for the second fixture.

England Men’s Performance Director Ed Barney highlighted the significance of the squad, stating, “This is an exciting group combining players on the cusp of international cricket with some of the game’s most promising talents. Alongside established Lions returning from the Australia tour, these players have earned their places through outstanding performances in the Rothesay County Championship this season. These matches provide a crucial platform to showcase their skills against a formidable international opponent.”
