Somerset’s Alcombe Tandoori Crowned Best UK Restaurant at Curry Life Awards 2025

Alcombe Tandoori, a cherished Indian restaurant in Minehead, Somerset, has been officially recognised as one of the UK’s finest, claiming the prestigious Best Restaurant of the Year award at the 2025 Curry Life Awards. The ceremony, held on Sunday, October 12 at London’s Marriott Grosvenor Square, celebrated outstanding achievements in the British curry industry.

Since opening its doors in 1999, the family-run Alcombe Tandoori has earned a reputation for its bold Indian seafood dishes alongside maintaining an impressive five-star hygiene rating for over a decade. Under the expert leadership of manager and head chef Jubar Ahmed, who has helmed the kitchen since 2010, the restaurant has become a beloved local institution.

Located at 67 Alcombe Road, Minehead, Alcombe Tandoori continues to embrace its community role by supporting numerous local charities and serving signature dishes such as Salmon Tikka Masala, Tandoori King Prawn Sizzler, and the exclusive Alcombe Delight.

The Curry Life Awards ceremony, hosted by ITV presenter Nina Hossain, united notable figures from hospitality, politics, and media. Highlights included praise from Syed Belal Ahmed, Editor of Curry Life Media Group, who applauded the innovative spirit of the UK’s curry entrepreneurs. The event’s headline sponsor, Lord Karan Bilimoria, founder of Cobra Beer, lauded the resilience and creativity of curry houses amid economic challenges.

Prominent MPs including Stephanie Peacock, Rushanara Ali, Mike Woods, Wendy Morton, and Ben Obese-Jecty also attended, underscoring the curry industry’s vital contribution to British culture and the economy.

The awards celebrated excellence in 39 categories, honouring chefs, takeaways, restaurants, and industry veterans. Among the special recognitions was the Curry Legend Award, presented to Mr Amin Ali, former owner of the famed Red Fort restaurant, a favorite of celebrities and former Prime Ministers alike.
