While some authors might hide or destroy their first manuscripts, Wells writer Willow Hewett has taken a uniquely creative approach to celebrate her work. She has designed and crafted a stunning dress made from the original draft pages of her book, captivating attention from publishers worldwide.
Willow, a prolific author of young adult fantasy novels, recently published her fifth book, a children’s picture book titled The Wishy-Washy Curly-Wurly Dragon. However, it is her handcrafted dress—composed of pages from the first manuscript of Past My Time: The Witch’s Cult, the third installment in her YA series—that truly showcases her innovative spirit.
At 29, Willow balances her busy life as a mother of two with her careers as a writer, illustrator, and scriptwriter. She actively participates in live events and podcasts, continually nurturing her creative passions.

Deeply inspired by her home city of Wells, Willow infuses its history and atmosphere into her work. One of her novels, Chamberlain Street, is a crime novel set in that very street, reflecting her appreciation for Wells’ rich heritage. She says, “I was drawn to Wells for its quiet tranquility and historical depth, making it an endless source of inspiration.” Her connection to the city often influences not only her writing but also her artistic designs, with plans underway for another manuscript dress inspired by Chamberlain Street itself.
Willow’s unique blend of literary talent and artistic vision beautifully highlights the magical synergy between Wells’ historic charm and creative imagination.
