Somerset Woman Reopens Pub to Honour Late Father’s Fight Against Cancer

Jordan Dunn is reopening The Lamb Inn in North Petherton as a heartfelt tribute to her late father, Jim Doyle, who passed away from cancer last December. For 17 years, Jim ran the popular pub alongside his wife Nicky, becoming a cherished figure in the community.

Jim was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021. Despite treatment, it was later revealed that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, making the illness terminal. During his final months, the family focused on creating lasting memories, including celebrating Jordan’s wedding.

Reflecting on her father, Jordan, 37, shared, “It wasn’t until his funeral that I realised how much he meant to people. Dad wasn’t just pouring drinks; he took the time to genuinely connect with those who needed someone, whether over a beer or a soft drink. That meant a lot.”

Together with her husband Kev, Jordan decided earlier this year to take on the pub and breathe new life into it as a tribute to Jim. “This place will be filled with stories about him. He loved The Lamb Inn, and bringing it back in his honour feels truly rewarding,” she said. A special feature will be “Jolly Jim’s Happy Hour,” a playfully ironic nod to Jim’s famously gruff nature when it came to discounts.

The family expressed deep gratitude to the charity Marie Curie for their compassionate support during Jim’s illness. Jordan recounted meaningful moments with a Marie Curie healthcare assistant who provided comfort and care in Jim’s final days. “She was like an angel to us, staying up late to share stories and laughter as we remembered Dad. It meant the world to have her there,” Jordan said.

In addition to reopening the pub, Jordan will be running the London Marathon next year in memory of her dad. She plans to raise funds for Marie Curie, highlighting the importance of their end-of-life care. “Running helps my mental health and gives me a way to give back. If my fundraising can help even one person get the care they need at home, it’s worth every step,” she explained.

The Lamb Inn officially reopens at 57 Fore Street, North Petherton, on Thursday, November 6.
