Somerset Wedding Venue to Expand with New Bridal Services

Old Oak Farm Wedding Venue, a cherished location on the Somerset Levels, is preparing to expand its services for brides following recent planning approval.

Andy and Rebecca Jones, who have managed the venue in Curry Rivel near Langport since their own wedding there in 2011, have steadily developed the site. In 2022, they replaced the original marquee with a purpose-built barn, enhancing the venue’s facilities.

Now, Somerset Council has granted permission for a small extension dedicated to bridal services, including a hairdressing, beauty, and wedding dress workshop. Currently, the venue holds permission for up to 40 wedding ceremonies and receptions annually, an increase from the initial 15 events allowed under permissions secured in March 2020.

The new single-storey building will be located near the site entrance, a short walk from the main venue, restrooms, and onsite accommodations. According to Clive Miller Planning, representing the couple, the addition addresses current limitations where mobile practitioners provide these services, often in unsuitable spaces. The workshop will also house a local seamstress who can alter, fit, and produce wedding dresses, offering convenience for bridal parties who otherwise must travel to different locations.

Planning officers approved the proposal under delegated powers, highlighting that the development is appropriate, sustainable, and beneficial to the local rural economy. Chief planning officer Alison Blom-Cooper noted the expansion would not harm residential or visual amenities, highway safety, or the environment.

This enhancement marks a promising development for Old Oak Farm, further cementing its reputation as a premier wedding destination in Somerset.
