Wick Farm, a renowned wedding venue in Somerset, may soon add a new feature to enhance its appeal: six glamping pods planned for its grounds. Situated on the A366 Trowbridge Road in Farleigh Hungerford, the venue is conveniently located near Bath, Frome, Radstock, and Trowbridge.
Operated by Chris and Jess McCullagh, Wick Farm offers weddings in its historic 14th-century threshing barns and hosts various events including clay pigeon shooting. With a view to expanding the site’s offerings, the couple has submitted an application to Somerset Council for the installation of six glamping pods to the south of the main venue.
The pod sites will be accessed via an existing road connected to the venue’s main entrance, and plans include provision for five parking spaces plus two disabled parking spots. Each glamping pod will feature a single bedroom (capable of single or double occupancy), a living area, kitchenette equipped with a sink basin and hob, and a separate bathroom. Guests will also have a small designated outdoor area to enjoy the tranquillity of the rural surroundings.

A spokesperson for AGM Planning Consultants, representing the McCullaghs, highlighted that Wick Farm offers “a balance of accessibility and seclusion,” providing the appeal of a country setting without being too remote. The availability of on-site accommodation aligns with the growing expectation among couples for extended celebrations, allowing families and friends to stay longer and enjoy a more personal experience.
Currently, the venue has limited overnight facilities with only a single one-bedroom annex mainly reserved for the wedding couple, limiting its ability to accommodate multi-day or extended event weddings, which are customary in certain cultures. The introduction of glamping pods is envisioned as a complementary enhancement that will help Wick Farm establish itself as a destination wedding venue while preserving its small-scale, rural character.
Somerset Council is expected to reach a decision on the planning application before Christmas. The outcome may be determined by the planning committee east, which covers major applications in the former Mendip area, or delegated to planning officers. Should permission be granted, construction on the pods is anticipated to commence early next year.
Wick Farm describes itself as “a family-run, beautifully restored medieval barn perfect for weddings, celebrations and private events,” and these developments could further solidify its standing in the local wedding venue landscape.
