Somerset Village Expansion Plans: 280 Homes on the Horizon

A large village in Somerset is on the brink of further expansion, with revised plans for the construction of up to 280 new homes. The Ninesquare Trust secured outline planning permission for the development in January, and the site has now been sold to Curo Enterprise Ltd., which has submitted updated proposals for the same number of homes. The decision on the amended plans is anticipated by late-spring, following the transition of the district council to Somerset Council.

The proposed homes, ranging from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses, will cater to various housing needs, with 30 percent designated as affordable dwellings. The site, allocated for housing within the Mendip Local Plan Part II, is part of the strategy to meet the area’s housing requirements up to 2029.

The development plans also emphasize enhancements to the existing pavements, introduction of a new junction onto Somerton Road, and careful parking design to ensure a well-balanced neighborhood. Measures to address environmental impact, such as the creation of new wetlands and the retention of public right of way, have been incorporated into the revised proposals.

Curo Enterprise Ltd. is no stranger to housing development in the region, with ongoing projects in Frome and Midsomer Norton. The decision on their latest proposals is expected to be a matter of public discourse due to the scale of the development.
