Somerset Triumphs in Record-Breaking T20 Blast Chase Against Middlesex

Somerset continued their flawless start to the T20 Blast season with a fourth consecutive win, overcoming a daunting target set by Middlesex in a high-scoring encounter at Taunton. Middlesex posted an imposing 229 for five, marking the highest-ever T20 Blast total by a visiting team at the Cooper Associates Ground. Despite this, Somerset managed to chase it down successfully with just four balls remaining.

Middlesex’s innings was electrified by Max Holden’s unbeaten 87 off 47 balls and Ben Geddes’ career-best 69 off 32, featuring seven towering sixes. Despite a spirited four-wicket haul from Riley Meredith, Middlesex’s bowling attack was unable to contain Somerset’s explosive batting lineup.

Somerset’s reply started shakily with Will Smeed falling on the fifth ball. Early wickets of Tom Banton and Tom Kohler-Cadmore added pressure as Somerset sought aggressive runs. At 88 for four after nine overs, captain Tom Abell was dismissed for 24 following a slog-sweep caught off Luke Hollman.

The game-changing partnership came from Sean Dickson, returning from a broken finger, who blasted five sixes and six fours in a spirited 38-ball 76. His match-turning stand with skipper Lewis Gregory, who powered a swift unbeaten 58, brought Somerset close to victory. Ben Green’s calm finishing and a final six from Gregory sealed the thrilling win.

With this victory, Somerset sit atop their T20 Blast group, showcasing their blend of resilience and firepower. They look forward to keeping their momentum against Gloucestershire in their next fixture on Friday night.
