Somerset Town of Nailsea Secures Temporary Banking Hub to Restore Local Services

Nailsea residents now have access to essential in-person banking services thanks to the opening of a temporary banking hub at Scotch Horn Leisure Centre. This initiative comes as a response to the recent closure of several high street bank branches in the area, which left many without convenient financial services.

Operated by Cash Access UK and established through tireless campaigning by Nailsea Town Council with support from LINK, the hub offers a range of counter services and community banker appointments for customers of major UK banks. The facility is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, and remains closed on weekends.

Customers can carry out essential banking transactions including cash withdrawals and deposits, cheque deposits, bill payments, and balance enquiries during any weekday. Community bankers from NatWest, Barclays, and Lloyds visit on specific days—Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays respectively—to provide personalised support. HSBC is anticipated to join the rotation soon, offering services on Tuesdays. Visitors should note that bankers may be unavailable during lunch breaks and currently there are no community bankers on site on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Jo Duffy, town clerk and chief executive of Nailsea Town Council, expressed optimism about the temporary solution. “We are delighted that LINK and Cash Access UK have brought this temporary banking facility to Scotch Horn Leisure Centre. Our ongoing campaign is focused on securing a permanent home to ensure that Nailsea residents continue to have access to vital banking services well into the future.”

Discussions are underway to establish a permanent banking facility in Nailsea, while the pop-up hub remains operational to meet immediate community needs.
