Somerset Sounds festival set to bring international music stars to Taunton

A new music festival, Somerset Sounds, is scheduled to make its debut at Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton in the summer of 2027. The event aims to attract internationally renowned artists, positioning Taunton as a key destination on the global summer tour circuit.

Jamie Cox, Chief Executive Officer of Somerset County Cricket Club, emphasised the significance of this development for the venue and the region. He commented, “Somerset Sounds represents an important step in the evolution of the Club and the Cooper Associates County Ground. While cricket remains at our core, we have broader ambitions for the venue to create experiences that draw new audiences from across the South West and beyond, producing substantial economic and cultural benefits for Somerset.”

Cox further noted the club’s rich history of hosting major artists, highlighting that Somerset Sounds will build upon this legacy to establish a distinctive and enduring event. “Our goal is for Somerset Sounds to become a highlight in the South West’s summer calendar, and we are very excited about forthcoming announcements for 2027,” he added.

The festival is being organised in partnership with entertainment company Full Fat 360. Founder Oli Bartlam shared his enthusiasm: “The Cooper Associates County Ground already boasts a strong heritage of world-class live entertainment, and Somerset Sounds marks the next ambitious chapter. Taunton and the surrounding area have a substantial appetite for major live music, and this partnership enables us to position the region firmly on the national touring map. We are delighted to collaborate with Somerset County Cricket Club to bring international acts to this iconic venue and establish a festival series that the entire South West can take pride in. Summer 2027 is just the beginning.”

Though primarily known as a sporting venue, Somerset County Cricket Club has welcomed legendary performers such as Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Lionel Richie throughout its 145-year history. Beyond entertainment, the club plays a vital role in Taunton’s economy, supporting over 200 jobs and contributing more than £20 million to the local area in 2025.

Somerset Sounds is set to launch in summer 2027, with the artist line-up to be revealed shortly. Interested individuals can register online for priority ticket access.
