Somerset County Cricket Club has announced the signing of South African batter Jordan Hermann for their upcoming Rothesay County Championship matches. The 24-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having amassed over 3,000 runs in First-Class cricket at an impressive average of 45.22, including a highest score of 187 not out.
Hermann’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Somerset, as injuries to Tom Banton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Lewis Goldsworthy, combined with Thomas Rew’s academic commitments and James Rew’s potential call-up to the England Lions and senior England team, have left the club short of batting options.
In addition to his domestic success, Hermann was recently named in the South Africa A squad slated to face the England Lions in two four-day matches this May. He also earned his first international call-up to the South African Proteas, contributing to their IT20 victory over New Zealand.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Hermann said, “I’m excited by the opportunity of playing County Championship cricket for Somerset. I’m always looking to improve, and playing in English conditions will help take my game to the next level. Somerset have started the season strongly, and I hope to contribute to maintaining that momentum.”
Andy Hurry, Somerset’s Director of Cricket, commented, “Given the recent injuries to key batters, bringing Jordan in was the ideal move to reinforce our lineup. He is a promising player with a growing reputation, and we look forward to his contributions as we aim to sustain our positive start to the County Championship.”
Jordan Hermann will be available for Somerset’s matches against Sussex, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire as the club looks to build on its early season success.
