Somerset County Cricket Club has secured the signing of South African batter Jordan Hermann to strengthen their batting lineup for the upcoming Rothesay County Championship games. The 24-year-old, boasting an impressive First Class record of more than 3,000 runs at an average of 45.22, including a highest score of 187 not out, will be available for matches against Sussex, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire.
Hermann’s recent cricketing milestones include selection in the South Africa A squad for two four-day clashes against the England Lions in May. He also earned his first call-up to the main South African side, contributing to the Proteas’ IT20 victory over New Zealand.
Somerset found themselves in need of additional batting cover due to injuries to key players Tom Banton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Lewis Goldsworthy. Additionally, Thomas Rew is currently focused on his A-Level exams, and James Rew faces potential call-ups for England Lions and the England senior team.

Speaking after signing the short-term deal, Hermann expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity: “I’m excited by the opportunity of playing County Championship cricket for Somerset. I’m always looking to get better and hopefully playing in English conditions can help take my game to the next level. Somerset have begun the season well and hopefully I can help to contribute to the team carrying on that good start.”
Andy Hurry, Somerset’s Director of Cricket, commented on the signing: “We have suffered a number of injuries to key batters in the last month, so we felt that this was the perfect opportunity to strengthen the batting line-up, and Jordan will certainly help to strengthen our options in that department. Jordan is a player with a growing reputation, and we look forward to him helping us to maintain our positive start to the County Championship campaign.”
