Somerset have secured the services of South African batter Jordan Hermann for the next three fixtures in the Rothesay County Championship. The 24-year-old right-hander, boasting over 3,000 runs in First-Class cricket at an impressive average of 45.22 and a highest score of 187 not out, will bolster Somerset’s batting lineup as they face Sussex, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire.
Hermann’s recent cricketing credentials are strong. He was named in the South Africa A squad set to play two four-day matches against the England Lions in May and earned his maiden call-up to the senior South African team during their IT20 victory over New Zealand.
Somerset’s decision to bring in Hermann comes amid several injuries to key batsmen, including Tom Banton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Lewis Goldsworthy. Additionally, young talents Thomas Rew and James Rew are unavailable due to exams and potential national call-ups, respectively, leaving Somerset in need of experienced batting reinforcements.

Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Hermann said, “I’m excited by the opportunity to play County Championship cricket for Somerset. Playing in English conditions will help me develop further, and I hope to contribute to the team’s strong start this season.”
Somerset’s Director of Cricket Andy Hurry welcomed the signing: “With injuries depleting our batting options, Jordan’s arrival is timely. He is a promising player with a growing reputation, and we look forward to his contributions as we aim to maintain our positive momentum in the Championship.”
