Somerset are on the brink of making history this Saturday, aiming to defend their T20 Blast title and become the first team ever to retain the trophy. Their journey to Finals Day at Edgbaston marks an impressive sixth consecutive appearance, underscoring the team’s consistent excellence in the competition.
Despite a challenging spell early in the season—including four consecutive losses after two wins—Somerset staged a remarkable comeback by winning five of their final six matches. This included commanding victories over group toppers and semi-final foes Northants, securing their place among the final eight.
Their quarter-final clash against Yorkshire at Headingley delivered one of the most thrilling finishes in T20 Blast history. Chasing 162, Somerset appeared headed for defeat when they faltered at 82-8 by the 15th over. However, Craig Overton’s extraordinary innings of 79 off just 30 balls, featuring three sixes in the final over, propelled Somerset to a stunning victory and kept their hopes alive for the title defense.

As they prepare for Finals Day, Somerset will face familiar rivals Northants Steelbacks in the first semi-final, while Hampshire Hawks take on Notts Outlaws in the second. The winners of these matches will meet in the evening final.
Head Coach Jason Kerr praised the team’s resilience, saying, “Getting to Finals Day again is an incredible achievement. Our run in the group stage and that quarter-final win demonstrate the character and belief in this squad. Somerset will welcome back Tom Banton, released by England for the match, but will be without Tom Lammonby due to an elbow injury and Lewis Goldsworthy, sidelined with concussion.
Reflecting on his remarkable innings, Craig Overton said, “It’s by far my best T20 innings. When I came in, I knew we had a slim chance, but I tried to keep calm, take the strike as much as possible, and find the boundaries when the opportunity arose. That last over was intense—hitting those crucial sixes gave us the belief we could finish it.”
