Somerset Secure Migael Pretorius on All-Format Deal for 2026 Season

Somerset County Cricket Club has confirmed the signing of South African fast bowler Migael Pretorius for the 2026 season. The 30-year-old will rejoin the squad at the County Ground for his third successive summer and will be available to represent the club in all formats.

Pretorius first joined Somerset in the summer of 2024, quickly making an impact with 324 runs and 23 wickets across eight County Championship matches. His contributions on and off the field endeared him to teammates, club members, and supporters alike.

Returning to Taunton for the 2025 season, Pretorius played in 12 matches across formats, claiming 33 wickets and adding 240 runs. He was instrumental during Finals Day, taking three wickets for 27 runs and smashing 12 runs off just three balls in the semi-final, helping Somerset clinch the Vitality Blast title for the second time in three years.

Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, expressed his enthusiasm for Pretorius’s continued association with the club: “From the moment he arrived in 2024, Migael wholeheartedly embraced the club’s culture. Over his two previous seasons, he has consistently influenced matches with both bat and ball, as well as his sharp fielding. His experience and versatility will once again add valuable depth to our squad.”

Pretorius commented on his return: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Somerset these past two years. From day one, I felt at home—Taunton is a special place to play. Being part of the team that won the Blast was incredible, and I’m excited to help the club build on that success in 2026.”
