Somerset Secure Fast Bowler Josh Shaw on Three-Year Contract

Somerset have announced the signing of fast bowler Josh Shaw on a three-year deal, marking their first key acquisition for the summer of 2026. The 29-year-old makes the short journey from Gloucestershire along the M5 to join the County Ground squad.

Shaw’s arrival bolsters Somerset’s already formidable pace lineup, which features captain Lewis Gregory, Jake Ball, and Craig Overton. This addition comes at an important time, as the county prepares to fill the gaps left by departures including Ben Green (to Leicestershire), Josh Davey, and Kasey Aldridge (to Durham) after the 2025 season.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Shaw said, “I’m really excited for a new challenge, and the prospect of joining Somerset was something I couldn’t turn down. I’ve always enjoyed the spirit of the team and the passionate support at Taunton. I look forward to contributing to more success and silverware for the club in the coming years.”

Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Shaw’s abilities and character: “We have witnessed firsthand how impactful Josh can be. His skill at swinging and seaming the ball makes him an excellent addition to our bowling attack. Beyond his talent, Josh’s strong character and commitment to self-improvement will be invaluable both on and off the field as we strive to compete strongly across all competitions.”

Shaw’s career began at Yorkshire before he transferred to Gloucestershire in 2019 after two productive loan spells. He played a pivotal role in Gloucestershire’s 2024 Vitality Blast triumph, taking 19 wickets at an average of 18, including crucial dismissals of Roelof van der Merwe and Jak Ball in the final against Somerset.

Over his career, Shaw has appeared in more than 140 professional matches across all formats, claiming over 230 wickets, underscoring his experience and effectiveness as a right-arm seamer.
