Somerset delivered a commanding performance to defeat Glamorgan by an innings and 64 runs inside just three days at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, strengthening their bid for a first-ever Rothesay County Championship title.
Left-arm spinner Jack Leach, along with seamers Craig Overton and Lewis Gregory, shared the majority of the wickets, collectively claiming nine. Leach took three for 46, while Overton and Gregory claimed three for 29 and three for 68 respectively, effectively limiting the visitors to 183 all out in their second innings, which resumed overnight on 30 for one. Asa Tribe was the top scorer for Glamorgan with 49, followed closely by Sean Dickson with 47. However, the Welsh side struggled in all areas against a highly disciplined Somerset attack.
Somerset earned 23 points from the victory, applying significant pressure on their main rivals Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire as the Championship race enters a thrilling final phase. Glamorgan could only salvage three points, and their prospects of challenging for the title now appear to be fading.

The hosts wasted no time making breakthroughs on the final day, despite a brief five-minute delay due to a shower. After an additional 12 runs were added to Glamorgan’s overnight total, Somerset’s skipper Kiran Carlson edged a forward defensive push from Migael Pretorius to wicketkeeper James Rew and departed without scoring.
At 65 for three, Ben Kellaway, who had contributed six runs, offered a thick edge to Craig Overton and was caught by Lewis Gregory at third slip.
Colin Ingram narrowly avoided being run out when Jack Leach missed the stumps while attempting a direct hit mid-on as Ingram was short of his ground trying for a quick single.
Somerset’s dominance continued as Leach spun the ball from the River End to induce an edge from Asa Tribe, which Overton caught at first slip. Tribe had faced 108 balls and struck eight boundaries.
Ingram soon followed, edging a defensive shot off Overton through to Rew, reducing Glamorgan to 81 for five and still needing 166 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Much rested on the experience of Sean Dickson and Chris Cooke, a partnership which had added 30 by lunch despite Leach’s nagging spin. Dickson was unbeaten on 20, with Cooke on nine.
In the afternoon session, the sixth-wicket pair extended their partnership past 50 runs, with Dickson showcasing his skill by reverse-sweeping and pulling boundaries off Leach.
However, Cooke’s spirited innings ended at 20 when he hooked a short ball from Overton straight to Josh Thomas at fine leg, leaving Glamorgan at 143 for six. Shortly after, Dan Douthwaite was dismissed for a first-ball duck, trapped lbw by a sharply turning delivery from Leach.
Dickson’s resistance, which had lasted 74 balls, concluded when he cut a wide delivery from Gregory, only for Somerset captain Tom Abell to take a sharp two-handed catch at second slip. With the score at 150 for eight, Somerset’s comprehensive victory was nearly assured.
Gregory then bowled Connor O’Riordan for a duck, the third such dismissal for Glamorgan in the innings, and the match concluded at 2.40pm when Abell caught Timm van der Gugten at cover, sealing the emphatic innings triumph for Somerset.
