Somerset Seafood Restaurant Closes After Only 15 Months

The Lazy Lobster, a seafood restaurant in Castle Cary, Somerset, has closed its doors after just 15 months of operation. Opening in August 2024, the restaurant followed the success of its sister location in Chew Magna but cited the “current economic situation” as the reason for its closure, announced on Instagram on December 3.

A representative expressed gratitude to both customers and staff: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce that we have sadly had to close the doors to Lazy Lobster in Castle Cary. We wish to thank our incredible team for their dedication and all the customers who supported us, including those who travelled to visit.”

The closure saddened many patrons who praised the restaurant’s food and atmosphere. One diner shared, “I visited last week with family and had the most delicious meal ever! There was nothing to fault. I’m so sorry to hear you have closed.” Another remarked, “Such sad news. What a magnificent place. We will travel to Chew Magna to visit you there.” Many appreciated the friendly service and quality cocktails that made every visit memorable.

Despite the closure, The Lazy Lobster in Castle Cary had enjoyed a strong start. When speaking to Somerset Live earlier this year, Front of House Manager Hugo said, “It’s been incredible. We’ve been pretty much fully booked every single day.” The restaurant also received positive acclaim with an average 4.6-star rating from 50 Google reviews.

The Chew Magna branch remains open Tuesday through Sunday, welcoming diners to book tables via their website.
