Somerset Schoolboy Faces Foot Amputation Following Electrocution Incident

A 14-year-old student at the renowned Millfield School in Somerset may face amputation of his feet after a severe electrocution accident. Chase Allen, a gifted young athlete, was hospitalized alongside two other pupils after accidentally contacting a high-voltage cable on Saturday, May 3.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, specialist hazard teams, fire crews, and police, quickly responded to the incident late that weekend. Chase, described by family and friends as bright, energetic, and passionate about sports, remains in critical condition in the hospital after suffering extensive internal injuries and severe burns. His family revealed that most of his toes have already been amputated, and his feet may require further amputation.

A GoFundMe page established by a family friend, Daveene Mccallion, has raised more than £60,000 to support Chase’s relatives, who live abroad in New Zealand and South Africa. Daveene highlighted Chase’s determination and athletic abilities, emphasizing the difficult journey ahead. “The NHS surgeons are working tirelessly, but the damage to his feet is critical. We hope additional amputations can be avoided, but his recovery will be long and challenging,” she said.

According to Chase’s parents, their son is preparing for his fifth surgery and resting as much as possible. They expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from Millfield’s community and beyond. “Our boy is a real fighter. We are staying positive and praying for continuous improvement,” they shared.

Millfield School’s headmaster, Gavin Horgan, informed parents of the incident, confirming that the injuries occurred after contact with overhead electrical cables. He reassured that all three boys who underwent surgery are currently stable and that the families are closely supported. A school spokesperson confirmed there is no ongoing danger to others and urged respect for the privacy of those involved as investigations continue.

Avon and Somerset Police responded to the scene alongside ambulance and fire services. All three injured students are in serious condition, and their families have been notified. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been alerted and is coordinating with police and the school to investigate the incident.
