Frome College in Somerset was placed on lockdown after a bomb threat was phoned in on the morning of Thursday, May 8. Authorities quickly identified the threat as a hoax after police received an anonymous call reporting a bomb on the school premises.
Police officers, alongside school staff, conducted a thorough search of the college grounds. During the investigation, some students were evacuated from parts of the campus, while others remained in their classrooms under extended supervision.
No suspicious items were discovered. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the call was malicious and declared the school safe. Following the all-clear, students resumed their normal classes.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police read: “At approximately 8:30 am, Frome Community College received a call from an unknown individual stating there was a bomb on site. Police responded immediately, working with staff to conduct a search. No suspicious devices were found and the call was deemed malicious. Students in the affected area were evacuated as a precaution. Normal school operations resumed shortly thereafter.”
Frome College added: “This morning’s hoax call led to a police visit to ensure everyone’s safety. Tutor time was extended while the site was thoroughly checked. We have since returned to our regular schedule, and the incident is now being handled by the appropriate authorities.”
