A power outage has forced Bishops Lydeard Church School near Taunton, Somerset, to close for the entire day on Monday, February 2. National Grid is conducting urgent repairs on underground power cables, which has impacted electricity supply in the area.
The school, located on Mount Street, confirmed the closure due to the ongoing electrical works. A spokesperson stated, “The school will be closed on Monday 2nd February due to National Grid works in the area. The school will be without power for the whole day.”
In addition to the school, 36 properties remain without power this morning. National Grid was alerted to the fault at 1:58 am and aims to restore electricity by 1 pm. Affected postcodes include TA9 3EE, TA9 3JG, TA9 3JH, TA9 3LJ, and TA9 3LQ.

A National Grid representative said, “We understand the inconvenience caused. Our engineers are actively working to fix a fault on the underground power cables. We estimate power will be restored by 1 pm, but times may vary if unexpected issues arise. Most customers should have their power back before this time.”
