Somerset Retiree Wins £78,000 McLaren in 19p Competition

Joseph Ryan, a 74-year-old retiree from Frome, Somerset, has won a stunning £78,000 McLaren 570GT through an online competition run by BOTB, and it only cost him 19p to enter. The former IT professional had been playing for just two months when he received the life-changing news.

The surprise arrived via a video call from BOTB presenter Christian Williams, which Joseph initially declined twice, unsure of the caller’s identity. “Then I had a message from BOTB to call them back, and I’m so glad I did,” Joseph said.

Playing the game mainly for fun, Joseph described his win as “a great shock” and “pretty amazing.” The McLaren 570GT perfectly balances high performance with everyday usability, boasting a luxurious interior, a comfortable ride, and more luggage space than most supercars—making it an aspirational prize for many car enthusiasts.

During the call, Christian gave Joseph a virtual tour of the McLaren, highlighting its key features. Joseph, who has driven Ferraris in his past, admitted he’d never even been inside a McLaren before. Although fascinated by the car, he is considering the cash alternative instead.

“I would love to have a go in it, but I’m not sure my back would cope with trying to get in and out of it,” Joseph admitted. “I’ll probably use the money to get a new car. My last three have been Kias, and my wife insists it needs a big boot to fit the dog.”

Christian reflected on Joseph’s mixed emotions, saying, “His reaction—a blend of shock and joy—was amazing to witness. The McLaren 570GT is an incredible machine, so it’s no surprise he’s torn about what to do next. Winning such a prize after only a couple of months playing is truly remarkable.”

BOTB regularly hands over dream cars and lifestyle prizes, maintaining its reputation since 1999. With over half a million prizes awarded, including £109 million worth of cars, the company continues to offer life-changing opportunities at minimal entry costs.
